The Evolution of Action:
- 1967: Action Mailing Services, Inc. opens its doors. Founded by John Roberts, a retired postal employee, the company originally operates out of his basement. All mail is hand-labeled and hand-inserted. Sorting is done by state. Cost of first-class postage stamp: $.05.
- 1970: Action Mailing purchases first Wing Mailer and 730 Machine, adding automation to the production process.
- 1976: USPS introduces discounts for presorted first-class mail. Cost of a first-class postage stamp: $.13.
- 1978: Mike Gilbert takes over operations at Action Mailing.
- 1979: Action Mailing purchases first Cheshire label machine and first computer for data processing (files are sorted in zip sequence). USPS introduces discounts for presorted bulk third-class mail.
- 1993: Tony and George Zirnhelt purchase Action Mailing. Mike Gilbert takes over role of Director of Operations.
- 1995: Action Mailing purchase first ink jet machine.
- 1997: Action Mailing purchases first black & white laser printer.
- 2000: Action Mailing purchases first 9x12 jumbo inserter. Cost of first-class postage stamp: $.33.
- 2002: Action Mailing moves into current facility at 12811 16th Avenue South, Plymouth, Minnesota.
- 2003: Action Mailing purchase first camera inserters for match mailing verification and reporting.
- 2004: Action Mailing opens second office in Peterborough, England.
- 2005: Action Mailing purchases first digital color printer.
- 2005: Action Mailing begins offering email marketing services.
- 2006: Action Mailing purchases first intelligent inserter.
- 2007: Action Mailing implements web-to-print and begins offering personalized URLs. Cost of first-class postage stamp: $.41.
- 2009: Action Mailing begins offering SMS marketing services.
- 2009: Action Mailing acquires Denison Mailing.
